After months of waiting, we finally saw Les Misérables at the Solaire Theater last March 14. Yes, I got our tickets as early as September of last year. Takot lang maubusan? Sayang ang 20% discount kasi.
It was just as I expected it to be. Rachelle Ann Go’s performance as Fantine took my breath away. The real show-stopper was, of course, the guy who played Jean Valjean (the husband loves to say his name over and over). Although I do admit to having dozed off twice during his solos. It was almost my bedtime after all.
We managed to catch Disney’s hit Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast” the day before they wrapped up production in Manila (I think they had already extended twice) on February 8. It was actually our way of celebrating Valentine’s Day the week before the actual day. The husband and I weren’t too keen on getting stuck in traffic as millions of couples swarm the metro to go on a date.
I was one of those who were taken completely by surprise when yesterday Lady Gaga sang a melody of “The Sound of Music” songs at this year’s Oscars.
This led me to finding more about Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – her real name. With a background in Music History and some unknown albums early in her career, she felt the need (like any other mainstream pop musicians) to revamp her image in the hopes of being noticed, and noticed she was.
Here’s a performance from her pre-Lady Gaga years:
We celebrated our Matriarch’s 80th birthday last August 8 in our hometown of Bacolod City. My ten (10) other siblings came home from the US, Australia and the Middle East so we can all gather again for this special occasion. The last time we were together was in 2006 during Dad’s passing.
We purchased our tickets way ahead of time for the Sugar Ray Smashmouth Gin Blossoms concert. The event was said to start at 7pm but was delayed for an hour and we were so anxious to see the bands! Granted I’m not a big Smashmouth fan, but Sugar Ray and Gin Blossoms were staples during my college years. 90s music, baby!
The venue wasn’t jampacked as expected as it was a Monday night. We got the reserved seats at Upper Box B and the view was not so bad. These were almost the same seats as ours last year when Jason Mraz was here.
Cookie Chua and her band came out at 8pm and played some of their hits of the 90s, as well as a very good rendition of Sampaguita’s “Tao”. Our local act did not disappoint 🙂 Here’s the original song for your listening pleasure:
